2010 Classes/Workshops
Pre-registration is required for all classes.

Kids’ Engine Class --- August 28, 2010 from 9am – 12pm.Boys and girls in the 5th-9th grade and their adult buddy can find out in this 3 hour hands-on class. Kids get to take apart a Briggs and Stratton one cylinder engine and learn how solids, liquids, and gasses interact to make it run. Then fire up a variety of engines to see how each gets their specific job done. There is no driving or riding involved, and you won’t get greasy (although we do promise lots of noise and smoke). The class is $25 per pair  for nonmembers and $20 per pair for Museum members. Cost includes handouts and Museum admission. Space is limited so sign up today!   

Model T Tune-Up Class --- Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 9am – 3pm.

This one day class teaches students how to tune up Model T Fords. This will include the demonstration of tests and measurements of the starter/battery, engine condition (compression tests), ignition service (spark plugs, coil checks, and timing), and fuel system checks (tank, carburetor cleaning and adjustments). Handouts for Model T “how to” services will be provided. If students have a Model T they are encouraged to bring the car with them and checks will be performed on the vehicle. Students who do not own Model Ts will still have the opportunity to assist with tests and measurements. The cost of this class is $85 per person  for nonmembers and $75 per person for Museum members. Cost includes instructional materials and lunch. Students must be at least 18 years of age. “Artomotive” Photography Class --- Saturday, April 17, 2010 or October 16, 2010 from 9am – 12pm. Enjoy a morning of cool cars and photography, with local photography enthusiast, Richard Ellman.  Richard will guide you in the basic steps and skills needed to capture that perfect picture. Whether you are a classic car owner and want to photograph your cool ride or just interested in the art of photography – this class is for you! Students are asked to bring their own camera/supplies (including a flash and/or a polarizing lens if you own one). Students must be at least 12 years old (minors must be accompanied by an adult). All skill levels welcome but some basic experience is assumed. The cost is $15 per student for nonmembers and $10 per student for Museum members. Cost includes Museum
admission. Space is limited so sign up today!    

Model T Basics Class --- Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 9am – 3pm.

Have you ever wondered why the Ford Motor Company manufactured over fifteen million Model T’s from 1908 until 1927 and why it had such an impact on our nation’s society and economy?  Enroll in this class and discover the wonder of Model T construction, nomenclature, operation and basic maintenance.  Also, each student will have the opportunity to learn how to drive a Model T --- an experience that won’t be forgotten! The workshop is $85 per person for nonmembers and $75 per person for Museum members. Cost includes Museum admission, an instruction manual, materials, and lunch. Students must be at least 18 years of age and provide a current driver’s license. Space is limited so sign up today!     

Muscle Car Tune Up --- Saturday June 12 and 19, 2010 from 9am – 3pm.  This two day class teaches tune up for ‘60s and ‘70s era muscle cars. Day one reviews cranking systems, engine condition, ignition and advance, base timing, fuel system performance tests and service tips. Day two reviews parts resources and methods for increasing power on your muscle car. Students are encouraged to bring their muscle car on both class days so they can perform the tune-up tests and adjustments directly on their vehicle. Students must be at least 18 years of age. The two-day class is $170 per person for nonmembers and $160 per person for Museum members. Cost includes handouts and lunch on both days. Space is limited so sign up today!        

Mechanical Brake Class --- Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 9am – 3pm. In this class, you will learn about service and adjustment procedures for effective braking.  The day will include demonstrations on servicing and/or repairing brake linings, mechanical linkage service, and major adjustment procedures outlined in the Ford Motor Company blueprints. Handouts on real case histories of brake repair and adjustments will be provided. Students must be at least 18 years of age. This class is $85 per person for nonmembers and $75 per person for Museum members. Cost includes handouts and lunch. Space is limited so sign up today!        

NEW PRICE!!!   Going Green Workshop Series --- this is a new workshop series for 2010 and consists of different workshops centered on alternative powers and is taught by American River College professor, Arthur Blank. Students must be at least 16 years of age and minors must be accompanied by an adult. Museum members: $20 per class or $15 per class if you take all classes. Nonmembers: $25 per class or $20 per class if you take all classes. Each class will take place from 9am – 12pm. Space is limited so sign up today! Please note, if signing up for the series, payment for all classes must be submitted at time of registration

    Alternative Fuels Workshop --- February 20, 2010. Examine energy sources that are efficient fuels, sustainable fuels and eco-responsible fuels. Learn about alternatives fuels such as CNG, LPG, biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen fuel cell technology, electric and hybrids, solar, wind, atomic and others. Learn what others are doing, where the state of the art is and where "green" energy/fuel investment is going.

    Hydrogen Fuel Cell Workshop --- March 13, 2010. Hydrogen has the potential to revolutionize transportation and, possibly, our entire energy system. Learn about hydrogen fuels cells that can power our cars or even provide the electricity for our homes in out of the way places that have no power distribution grid

    Electric Vehicles Workshop ---- April 24, 2010. An electric car is a car powered by an electric motor rather than a gasoline engine. Learn about this coming trend for our vehicles, how you  could convert a gas car to an electric one at home, why it all comes down to the batteries and where you can buy an electric car today.

    Biodiesel Workshop --- Saturday, May 8, 2010. Tired of high gas prices? Here is your   chance to learn how to combat them. Learn the what, how, and why of biodiesel and be given the opportunity to create your own small batch of biodiesel.

Auto 101 --- this program has been designed to help Boy Scouts and Junior Girl Scouts meet their auto-related patch and badge requirements. This three hour workshop includes an audio visual presentation and hands-on demonstrations that focus on the following topics: how cars are made; safety, basic maintenance inside and out; and simple checks and repairs.  For more information about this program or to schedule a workshop time, please call the Museum at (916) 442-6802.
